It is supposed to prevent police departments from using excessive force, arresting people without probable cause, detaining people without legal authority, and prosecuting them for crimes they did not commit. Who holds the government accountable when they ignore Constitution?

Steve Benedetto was not all of these things when he began his legal career in 2003. It took over a decade of battling in the trenches of the civil justice system — years of seeing horrific injustices — for him to imagine another possibility. A vision of what the legal system could be. And what a law firm could be for its clients.
HEATHER HAMEL ROBLES
Heather Hamel Robles entered the legal field with just about every bona fide title a lawyer can accumulate: Berkley grad; Judicial Clerk; Big-Firm Associate. Her diligence and focus led her to one of the pre-eminent law firms in the country. But Heather soon found that the accolades, peer admiration, and six-figure salary weren't enough. Not for a life-long activist hellbent on changing the system.
JESSE WULSIN
For years Jesse Wulsin worked as a corporate litigator, defending big companies in high-stakes disputes for one of the largest law firms in the southwest. Years of doing this work took its toll on his mental and physical health, and he ultimately left the practice of law. In 2020, after a summer of protests following the murder of George Floyd, Jesse decided to return to the law under one condition: He wanted to work at The People's Law Firm.
WHAT WE DO.
We prosecute civil rights lawsuits against police officers, prison officials, and their departments for violating our clients' constitutional rights. We require those who swear oaths to uphold the constitution to explain why they break those oaths. We fight for transparency from government officials who try to secrete their actions from the public. And we demand accountability for those who target and harm our marginalized communities and the changemakers who advocate for them.

Born in Arizona in 2014, The People's Law Firm was launched and built in Phoenix, becoming one of the leading civil rights firms in the state. We have since expanded to California and Colorado, with plans for additional expansion in the coming years.
